Welcome to Mallorca

An island steeped in history, Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, east of Spain between France and northern Africa. Mallorca has long attracted artists, writers, and creative types, and remains one of the most sought-after summer destinations in Europe today.

Our wedding will take place at a 13th century finca estate in the northwest, a scenic region shaped by majestic mountains and rugged coasts. We fell in love with the island a few years ago and are so thrilled to experience this little corner of the Mediterranean with you all!

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Getting to Mallorca:

United is adding direct flights from Newark (EWR) to Palma this June, so be on the lookout! Otherwise, flying from North America to Mallorca will require one transfer as there are no direct flights.

The international Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) has frequent, inexpensive flights from all major European cities. The closest connection is Barcelona’s El Prat Airport (BCN), which takes less than 1 hour. We recommend searching these flights separately to get the best deal. From Ibiza, you can take a flight (1 hour) or the Baleària ferry (2 or 3.5 hours). Our wedding venue is located outside the village of Fornalutx, next to the town of Sóller (a 30 minute drive north of Palma).

COVID Restrictions:

The latest COVID-related requirements for international travel to Spain can be found on Spain’s official tourism site, the US embassy info page, and the CDC's international travel guidelines page.

Spain is currently open to international travelers with proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test prior to arrival. You must fill out a Health Control Form (FCS in Spanish) and generate a QR code to enter. If you’re arriving from other EU countries, the Digital Green Certificate is also acceptable.

As per the CDC, US entry requires a COVID test (antigen or PCR) no more than 1 day before your flight.

Island Transportation:

If you plan to explore the rest of the island, a car rental is the best way to get around. We recommend picking a small, fiat-style car as the roads can get quite narrow in the mountains and old towns. Be sure to ask for an automatic in advance if you need it! The airport’s rental companies are quite inexpensive when booked in advance. All roads go back to Palma and you cannot cut across the island from east to west.

Alternatively, the major towns of Mallorca are accessible without a car – you can get around by taxi or public bus (EMT in Palma, TIB around Mallorca), or private transfer. Between Palma and Sóller, there's a vintage train that goes through the mountains and countryside and was used to transport Sóller oranges in the past. Many hotels also offer direct shuttles from the Palma airport. Note that Uber doesn’t operate on the island.

Wedding Transportation:

Shuttles will be arranged to & from the wedding venue from Sóller and Port de Sóller at 5:30PM, then 1:00AM and 3:10AM. The meeting points are Gran Hotel Sóller in old town Sóller, and Bikini and Hotel Eden in Port de Sóller. Please use the shuttles since the wedding venue is quite deep in the mountains.

Details:

Mallorca enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate with hot balmy summers – expect temperatures over 80°F/28°C with humidity. Bring lots of sunscreen, make sure your accommodations have A/C, and plan your schedule around mornings and evenings. The sun sets after 9PM. July is peak season and can get quite crowded, so make your reservations early.

People in Mallorca speak Catalan, Spanish or Mallorquí. English is common in tourist areas, but it’d be helpful to learn some basic words. Spaniards also often prefer late mealtimes, with lunch around 3PM followed by a mid-afternoon siesta and dinner around 10PM.

Do let us know if you need any help planning your trip to Mallorca :) We recommend at least 4 days to explore the island and attend the wedding events. For accommodations near the wedding venue, click here.

North Coast

This coast is dominated by dramatic coastlines, hairpin roads, and the Serra de Tramuntana ("mountains of the north wind"), which are popular for hiking, cycling and driving. The mountains are dotted with little bohemian villages, frequented throughout the years by the likes of Hemingway, Picasso and Chopin. We recommend a day exploring these towns – the prettiest are Deià, Valldemossa, Sóller and Fornalutx.

Sóller & Fornalutx

These are the closest towns to the wedding venue. Sóller is the largest village in the northwest and consists of the old town and Port de Sóller, connected by tram. Fornalutx is another tiny town that’s been voted the prettiest village in Spain on a few occasions.

  • Ecovinyassa (citrus blossoms are Jenny’s favorite scent in the world)
